Will there be a refund if the swim portion is canceled?

Triathletes should understand that should any portion(s) of the event be cancelled or modified there will be no refunds, credits, or deferrals. Also, if an athlete opts out of any portion(s) of the event for whatever reason, the athlete may not substitute or race portion(s) of the event unless this has been established as the new and modified course.

Many of the services and staffing contracts have been paid in advance for the swim. Shirts and medals have already been purchased are on site and available for pick up.

Proceeds from the event will continue to benefit the work of Friends of the Riverfront in building and maintaining the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.

The ALCOSAN Advisory states that kayaking is fine during “wet weather has ceased”. Why would you cancel the Kayak portion of the Adventure Race?

The Water Contact Policy was developed not only for athletes but also for those who protect them. The Policy serves to protect lifeguards, paddle boards or others who may have to swim in the river to save a kayaker who has tipped over.

Can I get a refund since the swim event was canceled

Many of the services and staffing contracts have been paid in advance for the swim. Shirts and medals have already been purchased are on site and available for pick up. Therefore, refunds will not be offered.

I never got a confirmation email for my one-day USAT membership license. How can I show it at packet pickup?

You can find your one-day USAT membership license in your RunSignUp Account.

1. Log in to your RunSignUp account
2. Click on the “Profile” link in the upper right corner
3. Click on the blue “My Registered Races” button in the lower left column
4. Click on the link to “View/Edit Registration” in your Pittsburgh Triathlon registration

I am no longer able to participate. Can I get a refund for my registration?

There are no refunds.

I am no longer able to participate. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?

Yes, you can either “gift” or “transfer for refund” your registration to someone else. There is a $10 fee to transfer your registration to another person. All transfers must be completed by Sunday, August 7.   Please follow the steps below:

  • Log in to your RunSignUp account
  • Click on Profile
  • Click on “My Registered Races” under the Runner Links section
  • Click on “View/Edit Registration” for the registration you would like to transfer
  • Click on “Transfer to Another Runner” from the left side navigation menu and follow the steps provided

If you are “gifting” your registration, you will not receive a refund and the person you are transferring to will not pay the registration fee. If you are “transferring for refund”, you will receive a refund of the registration fee, minus the $10 transfer fee and the new person will pay the current registration rate.

Regardless of whether you are “gifting” or “transferring for refund”, all USAT fees are non-refundable. Also, all new participants will be asked to enter their USAT number or will be required to purchase a membership. All questions regarding USAT memberships/fees, should be directed to membership@usatriathlon.org.

Am I able to switch my event distance?

Yes, you are able to change your event distance. There is a $10 fee to change your distance plus any registration fee differences. You will not receive a refund if the distance you are switching into is of a lesser value. Please follow the steps below:

  • Log in to your RunSignUp account
  • Click on Profile
  • Click on “My Registered Races” under the Runner Links section
  • Click on “View/Edit Registration” for the registration you would like to transfer
  • Click on “Transfer Event” from the left side navigation menu and follow the steps provided

Am I able to change my category or division designation?

Yes, you are able to change your category or division designation.   Please follow the steps below:

  • Log in to your RunSignUp account
  • Click on Profile
  • Click on “My Registered Races” under the Runner Links section
  • Click on “View/Edit Registration” for the registration you would like to alter
  • Click on “Questions” from the left side navigation menu and follow the steps provided

Am I able to change the shirt size I request during registration?

Yes, you are able to change your shirt size. Please follow the steps below:

  • Log into your RunSignUp account
  • Click on Profile
  • Click on “My Registered Races” under the Runner Links section
  • Click on “View/Edit Registration” for the registration you would like to alter
  • Click on “Giveaway” from the left side navigation menu and follow the steps provided

Is there a minimum age for participation?

Participants must be the following ages on race day in order to compete.

  • Olympic: 16 years old
  • Sprint: 13 years old
  • Adventure: 13 years old

Is there a time limit for the race?

The cycling portion of the races is the only course with strict time limits. The HOV Lane is contracted for specific times and cannot be extended. If you cannot adhere to the permitted timeframe, you will be asked to board a sweep vehicle that will take you to the shuttle drop off area on Commonwealth Boulevard.

  • Saturday HOV time limit (Olympic and Adventure Races): 10:00 AM
  • Sunday HOV time limit (Sprint): 10:00 AM

Will I be able to wear my wetsuit?

Wetsuit usage is determined by the temperature of the water on race day. Expected water temperatures will be posted leading up to the event and the final determination of wetsuit policy will be made on race morning.

  • USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.
  • USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 – 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards.
  • If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits.
  • If the water temperature is below 65 degree a wetsuit is recommended for any competitor. Any type of wetsuit may be worn, (John or Full).
  • If the water temperature is below 58 degree a FULL wetsuit will be mandatory for any competitor. Any person who is not wearing a FULL wetsuit will not be allowed to compete.

How do I update my Relay Legs?

  1. Log in to your RunSignUp account
  2. Click on the “Profile” link in the upper right corner
  3. Click on the blue “My Registered Races” button in the lower left column
  4. Click on the link to “View/Edit Registration” in your Pittsburgh Triathlon registration
  5. Click on the blue “Questions” button on the left hand side to select your Relay Leg

Please note: only the registrant can update their relay leg information. If you registered all the members on your team, you can complete the process. If they registered themselves, they will each need to follow the steps below.

What is the minimum weight to compete in the Clydesdale and Athena divisions?

The minimum male (Clydesdale) weight is 220 lbs and the minimum female (Athena) weight is 165 lbs. These weight classes are predetermined standards for USA Triathlon events.

Where do relay participants make their transitions?

Relay teams will receive a velcro band with a timing chip to wear on their ankle. Each team member will pass the velcro band and chip to their teammate within the transition area for their relay exchange.
